Characters Empty Characters

Post  Mike McCall Wed Nov 25, 2009 3:33 pm

The following list of characters is divided up according to basic agenda and, in some cases, affiliation. There are very few organized groups in this scenario, but there are still groups with a common agenda or purpose.

This list of characters isn't exhaustive. I will add more characters as I fill slots, to make sure that everyone has at least some choice. I'm also willing to entertain requests for other character concepts, provided I get them before Dec 12th.

Characters have been assigned the first gender the popped to mind when making them. These genders aren't written in stone, unless there is a specific note about the character's gender, right after the character name.

Icons is a world with costumed super heroes and super villains in it. This doesn't mean Spandex tights, necessarily. It means that people with powers are expected to be recognizable and iconic. Everyone Iconic (with a superhero identity) has a recommended costume listed. If you have something else that fits their theme, go for it. But Iconic characters will NOT be given to people without at least a willingness to dress up for the part somehow.

Characters Empty The New Horizons Foundation

Post  Mike McCall Wed Nov 25, 2009 4:25 pm

Founded in the wake of the Emergence, this international organization is devoted to helping those with emerging talents come to terms with their abilities, and find a way to use those abilities for the good of all.

Dr. Christopher Cain: One of New Horizons' founders, he is an expert on metahuman biology. A front-line humanitarian, he is conducting the tests at the clinic. (Mike E.)

Peter Milosik: Dr. Cain's laboratory assistant and nurse, Peter joined New Horizons out of a strong (some would say desperate) need to protect and help others.

Sophia Carlotti: The "talent counselor" attached to the clinic. She has lived through the trials of having a special ability, having been transformed herself through genetic manipulation. (Shyla Z.)
- Suggested Costume: Lizard-woman.

Daria Wright: A local woman, Daria recently joined the Foundation's staff. He has been given the task of organizing the clinic, and dealing with the paperwork. (Janice B.)

Characters Empty Established "Powers"

Post  Mike McCall Wed Nov 25, 2009 4:43 pm

While Regina has no resident metahumans (at least openly), the altercation and subsequent clinic has drawn the attention of a few public "supers" from elsewhere.

Doc Stone: A high-profile hero, with superhuman strength, speed and stamina, and training as a trauma surgeon. Doc Stone has been in Regina assisting those injured in the incident, and helping to clear debris from damaged areas. (Vince O.)
- Suggested Costume: White coveralls, with a caduceus or "hospital cross" logo on the back and left breast.

Alex Morrison: A brilliant architect and engineer, with the ability to control and shape earth and stone. He uses his ability in conjunction with his firm, Stronghold Development: thus, the media tends to call him Stronghold as well, much to his chagrin. Morrison was one of the participants in the battle which raged across the downtown area, and he has been hard at work to repair the damage ever since.
- Suggested Costume: "Architect's uniform" (hard hat, work boots, polo shirt and Dockers) with castle logo.

Psychotron: "The Sensational Psychotron" is Calgary's resident super-hero, it's self-appointed "defender of justice". He is a powerful telekinetic. When he heard about the incident in Regina, he flew down. "He's here to help!" (Brett)
- Suggested Costume: Garish super-hero costume, including mask and cape

Characters Empty Official Presence

Post  Mike McCall Wed Nov 25, 2009 4:56 pm

The altercation between Stronghold and Blast Shadow has been a major trial for the Queen City. Naturally, city officials are on hand, keeping a close eye on the clinic.

Marg Davis: One of the mayor's personal staff, here both to lend official sanction to the testing clinic, and to keep an eye on things. (Liza F.)

Sergeant Peter Roman: One of the Regina Police Service's most well-regarded officers, he has been placed in charge of security for the clinic. This means keeping things orderly, both within and without.
- Suggested Costume: Police uniform, or reasonable facsimile thereof.

Characters Empty Protesters

Post  Mike McCall Wed Nov 25, 2009 5:00 pm

The presence of superhumans in Regina has become a hot-button issue: many feel that the city is better off without these "freaks", who only bring strangeness and disruption with them. These "concerned citizens" are picketing the clinic, though most are outside.

Michelle Waxman: It's not that you're against powers, exactly. And you wouldn't discriminate against someone who has them. But you're worried that Regina is jumping into things without thinking about the Pandora's Box that it opens when the city condones "the Powered" in Regina, acting they way they do.

Characters Empty Test Candidates

Post  Mike McCall Sat Nov 28, 2009 12:54 pm

Most of the people here today are in line to be tested. They all have their own reasons: Some are worried, some are hopeful, and some are merely using it as a pretext to get something else they want.

Paula Ross: You were just leaving for your lunch break when that super-villain blasted a hole in the building your office is in. Now you're having headaches and you feel...strange. Your doctor things you should get checked out at this clinic. He says they can deal with it, but what if that radiation did something to you?

Frederick Walsh: While you were nowhere near downtown the day of the incident, who knows what sort of mutagens were released into the air by those people. You've always had a delicate constitution, and you just know that you've been exposed to something horrible. You've found some patches of skin with odd texture and... (Matt C.)

Allen Brody: You've always been a fan of superhero comics, but when the Emergence happened, you became so much more. You've been trying to get the money together to move someplace where there are supers, and now they've come to you! You'll get tested, but you're really here as a chance to meet some supers.

Donna Smith: You were jogging in the park, like you always do, when you got hit with one of those huge rocks that Stronghold guy was throwing around. Now, your leg's broken, and your running plans are shot. Superheroes are a menace.

Daphne Wilder: There's more than one way to get super powers. For instance, you have a line on a formula which can give you whatever kind of power you want. And where better to find people who want powers than here? (Laura S.)

Billy McNeill: You've got no reason to think you might have gotten powers from the battle - you weren't anywhere near it. But if there's a chance - any chance - that you could break out of your crappy, pointless life, you have to take it.

Taylor Ford: For as long as you can remember, you've been smart. Really smart. You've researched it, but you're not sure: how smart do you have to be before it qualifies as a super power? And what does that mean to your life?

"Mr. Smith": Not everyone with abilities is willing to suffer the limelight. You are part of an organization dedicated to defending the world against those who abuse their powers. You've been sent to make sure that New Horizons, and this clinic, is what is says it is. Taken

“Scalpel”: You work for an organization that provides Talented...muscle to interested parties. You're here, undercover, on a recruitment mission. Not that you're good at this stuff, but you were the only one available.

Brad Holmes: You were knocked out by the battle, so they say you should get tested. You hope you did get a power, because that's a great opportunity. With something like Blast Shadow's abilities, you could take whatever you want.

Michael Jameson
: You've been having...not nightmares, exactly. But you've been having blackouts. And memories of fur on your skin and...Anyway, you need to get checked out.

Malcolm Hecht: Your nephew is letting his abilities go to waste, and possibly endangering himself in the process. You've brought him here to face up to his abilities, and his responsibilities.

Cal Hecht: You don't want to be here. You don't need to be examined. You know who you are and what you can do, and you just want to be left alone and be a normal teenager.

Characters Empty The Javians

Post  Mike McCall Sat Nov 28, 2009 2:35 pm

Four high school friends united by a common past and an uncertain future. They have to this point been torn over whether to embrace them or seek a cure from the man who experimented on them in the first place. The incident in Regina allows them to come forth, learn about their abilities, and possibly cure them - or become fully-fledged heroes.
-Costuming Notes: These are four SIAST students from Moose Jaw who knocked their "super suits" together in their basements and garages - don't worry if the outfits aren't professional or polished.

Peregrine: Saul Quinn is the de-facto "leader" of the Javians, if only because he is consistently able to think of the future. A winged aikido student with heightened empathy, he could certainly adapt well to "super-heroing", but he's still not sure what he wants. (Larry C.)
- Suggested Costume: A martial-arts gi, Bo staff, and wings - preferably bat or dragon - but bird or angel will do in a pinch

Slipstream: For Shane Gordon, superpowers are a dream come true. And being a swimming champ with gils and water controlling just goes to show it was meant to be. He is responsible for the Javians code names and costumes - and just wish his friends would get with the program. (Tristan R.)
- Suggested Costume: A speedo or other tight swimming gear - but in deference to the weather you've put a sweatsuit over it

Hellcat: David Newman loves his friends, especially Shane, but he really feels that he got the short end of this deal. Not only is his recovering pyromania no longer optional, but he's a furry freak to boot. He does relish the chance to leave the basement for the first time in months - staying hidden is a lot harder for him than everyone else. (Rich J.)
- Suggested Costume: Felinoid features - preferably tigerish. Your concession to the "super hero" crap is a biker outfit,

Bitz: Jenny Tyler just wants to go back to normal life. She hates all this "super hero" crap. She'd always been good at this technical stuff in spite of herself, but being able to control machines just by thinking about it is way, way too much. (Ayla C.)
- Suggested Costume: Somthing "silvery and techno" you threw together out of your (very stylish and trendy) closet. And a mask to conceal your identity.
