Character List

Characters are organized according to rough affiliations. Characters within an affiliation don't necessarily get along, but they do know each other better than they know others.

Character genders are not set. The genders listed are purely arbitrary, and can be changed freely to suit the players.

Station Administration: Last Chance Station is a "free port", an autonomous station that operates through freight charges and corporate investment. Last Chance has a board of directors who operate out of the Van Rijn system, but the day-to-day operations are handled locally.
Bruce Kilkenny: Last Chance Station's manager has all the best qualities of a diplomat, taskmaster and mayor.

Station Security: Station Security is in charge of keeping the peace on the station and in nearby space. As most kinds of commerce are legal onboard Last Chance, their role is mainly to keep disputes from getting out of hand, and to make sure nobody decides to blow a hole in a bulkhead.
Cal Redman: Last Chance's security chief may be rough around the edges, but he does an admirable job of keeping the peace in this border station.
Terry Belzer: Terry is the senior officer after the chief, and she knows it. She makes sure everyone else knows it, too.
Arnold Shan: The new officer in security, Arnold is a pleasant, talkative fellow who's more a peacemaker than a peacekeeper.

Commonwealth Defence Forces: The Commonwealth Defence Forces keep a small force stationed on Last Chance Station, primarily as an early-warning post.
Tom Baldwin: Head of the (absurdly small) Marine contingent on the station, this old soldier is in charge of training the station militia, and in control of the station's point defences.
Jack “Slapshot” Flanders: This fighter pilot parties hard, and flies like the devil gave him wings. He is in charge of the Station's resident fighter wing.

Two major corporations have bases of operation on Last Chance Station. Both jacks-of-all-trade, they find themselves in a constant rivalry.

Spaceways, Incorporated
Daniel Villanova: Once a free trader captain himself, Ms. Villanova has traded freedom for power over Spaceways' operations over the whole sector. (Steve Marko)
Robert Harley: Spaceways' troubleshooter. When trouble shows its head, Mr. Harley shoots it.

AstroSynthesis Group
Randal Summers III: A company man through and through, Mr. Summers is always looking out for what's best for Astrosynthesis.
Freddie Arbide: The son of an Astrosynthesis director, who has been found a job as Summers' assistant...far from home.
Annie Oaks: Astrosynthesis Group's resident technical expert has a bit of a rebellious streak that sometimes gets her into trouble.

Smiling Andre St. Onge: Every station has its unsavory elements, and on Last Chance, this witty man is the one who controls them.
Bruno: One of Andre St. Onge's main associates, this hulking man acts as the crime lord's bodyguard.
Jinx: This pleasant woman doesn't seem particularly unlucky, and she's not. The nickname comes from what happens to those who annoy her...or St. Onge.

Reg Dobranski: An energetic hustler, Reg makes his living selling his knowledge of station and sector to newcomers.

The Urthani Empire has been growing through nearby sectors. The Urthani Navy has sent a ship to open preliminary diplomacy with Last Chance Station and human space.

Chanur Kai: The Urthani commander seems to have a pleasant manner. But what steels does the velvet glove conceal?
Melo Van: Chanur Kai's bodyguard. This noble warrior is dedicated to his commander.
Vilur Hal: The Urthani spymaster. His oozing charm may conceal more than just sneers.

A century-old Commonwealth ship sold fourth-hand to Chil'kar explorers has arrived at Last Chance to trade.

The Chil'kar: This expedition from the Chil'kar Exploration Initiative has come to Last Chance to acquire technology and experts to help the Chil'kar take their place in the galaxy.
Gol Chirichak lek Thar: The Chil'kar mission's commander is not a patient man, especially when he has to deal with all of these jumped-up “galactic citizens”.
Kel Termassi lek Than: A third-generation astronaut, this explorer has a more sanguine view of aliens than his crewmates.
Kel Chiballak lek T'horm: This scientist is fed up with alien attempts to keep his people in the dark.

The Bokee: Hired on as the engineering crew for the Chil'kar expedition, this clutch is now being accused of theft and fraud by their employers.
Mirmalinisarker: The head of the Bokee clutch, he is also their diplomat, and a keen student of sentient nature.
Birimbal: This apprentice is even more hyperactive and unfocused than typical for his species.
Remasileeru: This environmental specialist has a distracted air and a taste for “hands-on” exploration
Vilaruscostamalis: The clutch's quartermaster has a talent for “liberating” necessities. Or anything else he wants, really.

The free trader Three Coins In A Fountain makes its living by tracking down the rare or unknown, and finding someone to whom it is valuable. While they have been accused of being con artists, what they do is completely legal. Well, mostly legal.

Ianto Harrison: The head of the Three Coins' venture, Ianto is a man with a silver tongue, a taste for the good life, and an eye for opportunity. A rogue, but an honest rogue. Mostly.
Hardy: Hardisimplimakintrae of the Bokee has turned his species' native inventiveness to a new game: making money. He also doubles as the ship's technical expert.
Tivaral: This alien explorer is not as voracious a capitalist as his two partners, but they appreciate the value of his planetological expertise.

Richard Donaldson: Earth-born and ground-bound his whole life, he has washed up at Last Chance after an extended tour of human space.
